The library staff with Captain Nittwitt.

The 2022 Cambria Scarecrow Festival has arrived and Cambria Library is excited to participate once again. In the spirit of the theme of recycling this year, we have recycled “Betty” who previously appeared as a witch and a Supreme Court Justice.

Please allow us to introduce you to local legend Art Beal, better known as Captain Nittwitt or Dr. Tinkerpaw. Beal served as Cambria’s garbage collector for many years. He made good use of what Cambrian’s were throwing away, even pieces discarded from Hearst Castle.

At the library, we share a similar philosophy. Why buy something new when you can borrow it (for free) from the library? In addition to books, movies, and digital platforms, we have a sewing machine, induction oven, Oculus, and many more items. Free passes to State Parks? Yes, we have those too! Use your library card to reserve one today! Visit slolibrary.org to learn more about our Library of Things available for checkout.

As you enjoy the festival this year, we hope Captain Nittwitt inspires you to reuse, recycle, and be creative. We look forward to seeing you at the Cambria Library!

Special thanks to Valerie Ratto, Judy Butler, Terry Shue, and the library staff for construction of the scarecrow.
